Facts and Figures

For more than 50 years, the IARC Fellowship Programme has trained 612 rigorously selected young scientists from 82 countries.

Fellows come from all around the world. Applications from candidates from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), and projects relevant to these countries, are encouraged (in 2015, 80 % of fellows were from LMICs).

More than 90% of past Fellows are working in the public sector. About two thirds are still active in cancer research.***

International courses on basic and advanced topics related to cancer research are organized worldwide, mainly in LMICs.

IARC Summer School participants-Countries of origin (2005-2014)

The IARC Summer School in Cancer Epidemiology is a major training event that takes place in Lyon during June and July every year, and targets a wide range of professionals with a direct interest in working in cancer epidemiology or registration, particularly from LMICs.

IARC Early Career and Visiting scientists by category (2008-2015)

IARC hosts more than 100 trainees, students, postdocs, and visiting scientists every year, making it an ideal multicultural environment for education, training, and expertise exchange.
