IARC has expanded its Fellowship Programme to include short-term stays at IARC (3-4 months) in order to transfer basic skills in cancer research to promising professionals from low- and middle-income countries. In 2012, in collaboration with the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), the UICC-IARC Development Fellowship was successfully launched during the IARC Summer School. This initiative allowed one/two of the most promising participants of the 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 courses to return to IARC for a period of 3 months to receive further training, and to set up research collaborations. In 2017, UICC and IARC awarded one 3-month and three 1-month-fellowships to participants of the 2017 IARC Summer School. In 2019, UICC and IARC awarded four 1-month-fellowships (three financed by UICC and one financed by IARC) to participants of the 2019 IARC Summer School.
